OF COURSE THEY HEAR HIM: New Bombers defensive line coach Mike Scheper is clearly in charge and making himself understood with his men. “I love it,” head coach Mike O’Shea said Wednesday. “He’s wild and you’ve witnessed first hand the way his D-line is working. Mike Scheper is a good coach and he’s found a way to communicate with his players very efficiently. It translates from the meeting room to the field. That’s coaching.”

WHO STOOD OUT: QB Robert Marve, OL Matthias Goosen, LB Ian Wild, HB Don Unamba.

OUCH REPORT: DT Ryan Lucas (knee, done for season), DL Zach Anderson (heel contusion), RB Will Ford (hamstring), OL Tyson Pencer (flu), LB Ejiro Kuale (ankle).

O’Shea was emotional when he revealed to reporters on Wednesday that Lucas, the veteran and Vancouver native, will not play again this season.

“He was down on the turf, I turned around, and he said he heard something go in his knee,” O’Shea said. “It’s been confirmed.

“It becomes a personal issue when I lose a guy with an ACL on the first day of camp, a guy who loves football so much that he can’t stand it. It’s not about the ratio, it’s about a guy who’s… nothing about ratio.”
