ABOUT THE BLUES
- St. Louis is 38-18-4, good for second place in the Central Division, but has dropped two straight in losses to Pittsburgh (4-2) and Montreal (5-2). St. Louis is just 4-5-0 in its last nine games and head coach Ken Hitchcock was a little cranky about their play of late following Tuesday’s loss to the Habs. “What we’re doing is not paying any respect to checking,” Hitchcock said. “We’re not paying any respect to defence, to managing the puck, to managing the proper way to playing. I don’t care what the shots on goal are. When you give up as many odd-man rushes as we gave up in the last two games, we’re showing no respect for what matters in the National Hockey League at this time.”
- The Blues have been outscored 11-3 in the first period over their past 11 games and allowed the first goal in eight straight home games.
- St. Louis has the NHL’s fourth-best power play and ranks 19th on the penalty kill.
- Vladimir Tarasenko has been outstanding for the Blues, with 31 goals and 29 assists, placing him in the NHL’s Top 10 in scoring. His 30th and 31st goals came last week against Boston and made him the youngest Blues player to eclipse that mark since Brendan Shanahan in 1991-92. Alex Steen is second on the club in scoring with 19 goals and 32 assists.
