ABOUT THE AVS
- Colorado improved to 37-31-12 with a 3-2 win over Nashville Tuesday in Denver, despite being outshot 42-23. Rookie Joey Hishon, playing in just his 11th NHL regular-season game, scored the winner in the third period. A first-round pick of the Avs in 2010, Hishon missed all of 2011-12 with a head injury and played just nine games a year later in the AHL. “It was amazing. I had a lot of adrenaline running through my veins, so it was good to get that first one,” said Hishon of potting the game-winner. “To get it in a win is even bigger. I couldn’t stop smiling after. There were 11, 12 minutes left in the game, so I had to try and focus on my breathing and come back down to earth.”
- The Avs set a franchise record for man-games lost to injury Tuesday night. That number reached 478 against the Preds, second only to Columbus (499) in the NHL this season.
- Colorado is the only NHL team with six 50-point scorers this year: Gabriel Landeskog (58), Jarome Iginla (57), Ryan O’Reilly (55), Alex Tanguay, Matt Duchene (54) and Tyson Barrie (52). Iginla has hit the 20-goal mark for the 16th time in his career. Only Jaromir Jagr (18) has more 20-goal seasons among active players.
- The Avs are 9-4 in shootouts this season and 62-35 for all time. Colorado owns the highest scoring percentage of all time at 38.9 per cent (132/339) in the skills competition.
