The Winnipeg Jets have recalled goalie Connor Hellebuyck from the St. John’s IceCaps this morning.

There are two possible reasons, and one is that they intend to give him his first NHL start in Saturday’s game at the MTS Centre against the Calgary Flames.

The other is that coach Paul Maurice has decided it’s time to get backup Michael Hutchinson a game and give No. 1 goalie Ondrej Pavelec a complete day or two of rest before the Stanley Cup playoffs begin.

Hellebuyck, 21, is coming off a fine rookie pro season for the IceCaps. He has played 58 AHL games so far, recording a 28-22-5 record with a 2.58 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage.
