By sheer coincidence, 7-Eleven Canada is making the world’s biggest brain freeze on Saturday, while Environment Canada is forecasting humidex values approaching 40 this weekend.
The convenience store chain revealed in late June that Winnipeg was named the Slurpee capital of the world for a 16th consecutive year.
On Saturday, celebrations tied to that lofty title will begin, with 7-Eleven doling out 67,500 free 12 oz. Slurpees at its various locations between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.
7-Eleven also plans to craft the world’s largest Slurpee drink at 711 litres at 119 Salter St.
Attendees can nab free Slurpees and cake, and catch live entertainment as Slurpee history is made.
An ultra-marathoner is also getting in on the action.
Scott Burton, along with a team of runners, will attempt to run to all 45 7-Eleven locations in Winnipeg — approx. 71.1 miles (114 kilometres) — as part of the Slurpee festivities.
