Fabio finds election fascinating

REMEMBER Fabio, the big, male, blond-ish model from Italy? Had his 15 minutes of fame in the 1990s after somebody noticed him on the covers of paperback romance novels, with his shirt off and his hair long? Had an acting and singing career, which both ended abruptly when it turned out he couldn’t act or sing? Ended up doing TV endorsements and ads? That Fabio (full name Fabio Lanzoni).

Lanzoni just became a U.S. citizen and is now able to vote and says he may try a political career someday. He’s quite interested in the current endless presidential campaign, the New York Post reports.

It’s “going to be the most incredible TV you’ve ever seen in your life — nobody is going to watch the reality shows anymore,” he says of the campaign.

Stars selling posh apartments

THIS “conscious uncoupling” caper of Gwyneth Paltrow’s and Chris Martin’s continues to tick along, slowly if not surely.

The latest, Variety reports, is they’ve listed their two apartments in the exclusive River Lofts complex in Manhattan’s Tribeca district.

The bigger flat could be yours for a mere US$14.25 million. The other, on a lower floor, is available for just US$3.35 million. I suppose they used that one for storage, or as servants’ quarters.

They bought the big place for US$5.1 million in March 2007, adding the other for under US$2 million two years later.

Affleck ‘amicably separated’

IT’S a separation, at least, for Casey Affleck and Summer Phoenix, after 16 years together and two sons.

The couple got married 10 years ago. Now they have “amicably separated,” their public relations person told People and Us magazines. There was no mention of divorce.

Affleck, 40, is the younger brother of Ben Affleck. Phoenix, 37, is one of Joaquin Phoenix’s younger sisters.

Casey is 40. Summer’s 37.

Eccentric star engaged

SHIA LaBeouf and British actress Mia Goth are engaged, Us Weekly reports.

There are no details, and LaBeouf’s publicists neither confirmed nor denied the story.

We do know these two met in 2012 on the set of a big-screen epic called Nymphomaniac: Vol. II and became a couple pretty quickly.

She’s stuck with him through a considerable quantity of weirdness in recent years, including the performance-art phase, the paper-bag-on-the-head phase, the skipping rope event, the drunk-in-a-drugstore caper and the hand-smashed-in-a-drunken-car-accident business.

Sea creature named after Sir Elton

IS it an honour or an insult to have a parasite named after you? What if it’s a harmless one?

Those are the questions Sir Elton John must be asking now a new-found crustacean has been named L. eltoni. It’s kind of like a shrimp but lives inside some other critter, in what scientists call “commensal association,” meaning the parasite neither harms nor helps the host.

James Thomas, a researcher at Florida’s Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography, discovered this thing, in Indonesian waters, the Telegraph reports, and so has naming rights.

He said he chose L. eltoni because, “I have listened to (Elton’s) music in my lab during my entire scientific career” and the thing’s shape reminded him of “the shoes Elton John wore as the Pinball Wizard.”

50 Cent turns to TV

WHEN all else fails, try a TV show. That’s 50 Cent’s plan, as the bankrupt rapper scrabbles around trying to pay his bills.

He will executive-produce and be the host of a new variety show (no title yet) for A&E.

The rapper (a.k.a. Curtis Jackson) says his show will be “no holds barred.” The show, he says, will feature comedy sketches, standup comedy, “reality experiments,” dance, magic acts and, of course, celebrity guests and music.

“I grew up watching variety shows and am excited to put my own spin on the format,” he said in a news release.

Rapper racks up big bill

WHEN your ex gets engaged to a star quarterback, there’s only one thing to do, and the rapper Future did just that, TMZ.com reports. He went to a high-end strip club — Vlive, in Dallas — and squandered US$21,000 in one night.

Future — born Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn — used to live with Ciara — born Ciara Princess Harris — but she just got engaged to Russell Wilson of the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks.

The 27-year-old rapper and Ciara, 30, have a son together. This will be her first marriage and Wilson’s second.
