IT didn’t take former Winnipeg Blue Bomber quarterback Kevin Glenn long to find a new football home.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are expected to soon announce they have signed the former Bomber starter, perhaps as early as today.
“Kevin made it very clear that Hamilton was the team he wanted to move forward with,” Mark Maren, Glenn’s agent, told the Hamilton Spectator on Thursday. “I can’t say there is deal in place yet, but we’re very close.
“We’ve stopped talking to other clubs and we’re moving forward in the right direction with Hamilton.”
The Bombers released Glenn on March 9 after the two parties couldn’t agree on a restructured deal. That said, it was clear new Bomber head coach Mike Kelly was committed to Stefan LeFors, acquired from the Edmonton Eskimos in January and viewed Glenn as an impediment to his candidate’s growth and the development of Ryan Dinwiddie and Bryan Randall.

And while it was speculated Glenn had drawn interest from other CFL teams, it’s of little surprise that he has apparently landed with the Ticats. They were the only team that openly expressed interest in the 29-year-old veteran and even tried to have him renegotiate his contract when the Bombers gave them permission to speak to Glenn in February. Instead, they forced the Bombers to release Glenn before he was due a $50,000 payment March 15 and another $100,000 when training camp opened in June.
Glenn, who just last week became a father for the first time, lives in Detroit and is co-owner of a Tim Hortons franchise in nearby Warren, Mich. He threw for 3,697 yards and 20 TDs against 20 interceptions last year — one season removed from being named the East Division Most Outstanding Player and throwing for 5,000 yards.
Ticat general manger Bob O’Billovich told The Spectator’s Drew Edwards he was “optimistic” a deal would be done shortly. Glenn will be asked to push Quinton Porter, who replaced Casey Printers as Hamilton’s starter last year, and joins four other QBs on Hamilton’s roster, including Adam Tafralis, Richie Williams and newcomers Erik Meyer and Josh Betts.
