THE Manitoba Curling Association has released the dates for its 2009-10 championship events in a season that will be significantly affected by the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver occurring at the height of the curling year.
The MCA said Wednesday that the Safeway Southern Berth Spiel will be held Oct. 31-Nov. 2 in East St. Paul, its usual time of the year, but the 2010 Manitoba Juniors will be held before Christmas for the first time ever, Dec. 18-22 at the Deer Lodge (men’s) and Charleswood (women’s) clubs.
The Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts will be held Jan. 6-10 at Killarney’s Shamrock Centre, and the Safeway Championship (men’s provincial title event) will be held Feb. 10-14 in Steinbach, just before the Olympics.
Other provincial event dates announced Wednesday:

“ö Mondetta Senior Women’s, Strathcona Senior Men’s, Feb. 24-28, Brandon
“ö Credit Union Masters Women’s, Men’s, March 3-7, Winnipeg (St. Vital Curling Club and Fort Rouge Curling Club, respectively)
