PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE – The teams of Reid Carruthers and Jill Officer and Mark Nichols and Jennifer Jones both won here Thursday afternoon to guarantee themselves at least a playoff tiebreaker game at the 2018 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Trials.

Carruthers/Officer and Nichols/Jones improved their round-robin records to 5-2 with the victories.

Carruthers/Officer hammered Robert Desjardins/Emilie Desjardins 10-2, while Jones/Nichols defeated Mike McEwen/Dawn McEwen 9-6.

The loss dropped the McEwens record to 2-5 and officially eliminated them from playoff contention.

Meanwhile, Kaitlyn Lawes/John Morris and Chelsea Carey/Colin Hodgson kept their playoff hopes alive with victories late Thursday afternoon that improved both teams to 4-3.

Lawes/Morris defeated Kalynn Park/Charley Thomas 5-4, while Carey/Hodgson defeat Sherry Middaugh/John Epping 8-3.

Jocelyn Peterman/Brett Gallant (7-0), Laura Crocker/Geoff Walker (8-0) and Dana Ferguson/Brendan Bottcher (6-1) have all clinched spots in the eight team playoff round that begins Friday evening.

The final two round-robin draws take place here Thursday evening.
