McDonald maintains Amateur lead on Day 2
If it was up to Justin McDonald, the Manitoba Men’s Amateur Championship would never leave Quarry Oaks.
The 32-year-old McDonald has been red hot at Quarry Oaks, as he’s posted the top score on the first two days of the event, shooting a 4-under-par 68 on Monday, and a 2-under 70 on Tuesday to give him a three stroke lead heading into the final two rounds.
McDonald, who golfs out of Breezy Bend, needs to keep his strong play going at Glendale Golf & Country Club, as the tournament will shift to the Winnipeg course before a tournament champion is crowned on Thursday.
St. Boniface’s Jacob Armstrong sits in second with a 3-under 141 total after shooting an even-par 72 on Tuesday. Eric Johnson, another Breezy Bend golfer, is one shot behind in third place after firing a 73. Pine Ridge’s Noel Ngo shot 71 to sit in fourth pace at 2-over par. Breezy Bend’s Allan McDonald and Niakwa’s Todd Fanning are tied for fifth with totals of 148, after firing rounds of 74 and 75, respectively.
