Who’s still standing?

THE Bombers cut a dozen players on Thursday to meet the CFL roster deadline. Here’s the dirt on what went down:

RELEASED:

DB Patrick Body*

WR Terry Firr

OL Jean-Francois Morin-Roberge

OL Matt O’Meara

RB Joe Smith*

DB Ronyell Whitaker*

OL Thaddeus Coleman*

LB Jasper Johnson*

DB Nick Kordic

DE Montez Murphy*

DE Chase Ortiz*

LB Neil Ternovatsky

SUSPENDED:

DL Aaron McConnell*

*Indicates import.

SEVEN NEWCOMERS WHO MADE THE SQUAD:

RB Lavarus Giles: Big, speedy, younger and cheaper version of Smith who was dynamite in camp.

LB Jonathan Hefney: Can play corner, safety and linebacker and return kicks. High-energy guy who would fill in at guard if asked.

DB Brady Browne: Kamikaze-type Canadian and U of M product the coaches absolutely love.

P Mike Renaud: What’s not to like right now? He’s Canadian and he can punt.

RB Yvenson Bernard: Fred Reid and Giles make it tough for him to get on the active roster right now, but he’s shown flashes.

DT Don Oramasionwu: Former Bison is still green, but will be groomed by Richard Harris.

DT/DE Dorian Smith: Spent three weeks on the Bombers practice roster last season; another Oregon State product recommended by Mike Riley.
