Thursday was an unbelievable night to be a Winnipeg Goldeyes fan at Shaw Park.

The Fish absolutely dominated the game, relishing in a 15-1 victory over the Chicago Dogs.

Winnipeg’s bats were hot all night, but it was pitcher Mitch Lambson who stole the show. For a second consecutive start, Lambson finished a complete game. The lefty allowed just one run on seven hits over the full nine innings. He walked only two batters and struck out four. The complete game was the fifth of his professional career.

It was also a big night for Goldeyes rightfielder Willy Garcia. In the seventh inning, he hit a bases-loaded no-doubt home run out of left centre field — Winnipeg’s first grand slam of the season. Garcia also hit for a team-leading 10th straight game.

Right after that, Dominic Ficociello followed up with his first home run as a Goldeye.

Goldeyes catcher Kevin Garcia started off the night by striking out in a bases-loaded situation, but with bases loaded again in the third inning, the catcher redeemed himself, hitting a single that scored two runs.

He went on to record one more RBI in the fourth.

While the Goldeyes soared, Chicago had a rough night in every department. The Dogs have struggled defensively all season and are currently second-worst in the American League for errors, having committed 35 in the past 29 games.

It was also the third night in a row Winnipeg scored by capitalizing on an error from Chicago infielder Trey Vavra.

The three errors for the Dogs on Thursday night did nothing to help their case — but neither did their pitching. Chicago’s starting pitcher D.J. Snelten only made it 4 2/3 innings before being pulled from the mound. In that time, the righty managed to throw 100 pitches, walk six and allow eight runs (five earned). Snelten finally got yanked after a two-out, two-run bomb from Reggie Abercrombie that put the Fish up 8-1.

The Goldeyes hope to take this momentum into their four-game series with the Milwaukee Milkmen, beginning tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Shaw Park.

This weekend’s series includes a double-header on Saturday, making up for the teams’ rained-out game last weekend.
