THEIR offence is the worst in the league. Their passing game makes the entire offence look passable and that’s really a sick joke in itself.

Imagining the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ offence going to work this Friday night in Vancouver against the B.C. Lions without Terrence Edwards in the lineup has to be a troubling possibility for most fans.

Edwards, who is suffering from turf toe in Saturday’s loss to the Montreal Alouettes, has not practised this week but indicated late Tuesday afternoon that he would play Friday.

"Sure, I’ll play," said Edwards. "I’ll to do a little bit on (Wednesday) and then we’ll do what we have to on Friday so I can play."

Edwards is the one member of the passing attack that has had a decent season.

The Bombers rank last in points scored with just 125 through seven games and the team’s passing statistics are laughable with a 45.6 per cent completion rate for 1,098 yards with an average gain of 5.4 yards and just three touchdowns through the air.

Edwards is the best of the bunch with 23 catches for 333 yards and all three of the team’s passing touchdowns.

Winnipeg running back Fred Reid says the club must rely on all its weapons.

"We’ve worked a lot on the passing game this week and we need to do that to keep the running game working," said Reid, who leads the CFL with 535 yards on 89 carries.

"We can’t be one-dimensional," added Reid. "This is a passing league and we have to have a passing game. We’ve worked hard on it this week and hopefully we can carry it over into the game."

The Bombers will undergo a few defensive changes this Friday as tackle Dorian Smith and safety Ian Logan will not play. Coach Mike Kelly expects Shawn Mayne to play in Smith’s place and a combination of Brady Browne and Shawn Gallant will likely take over for Logan.

"It’s looking like Brady (Browne) right now. Shawn Gallant has had to go home to Ontario to look after a family matter," said Kelly. "Shawn will be there for the game and it looks like Ian (Logan) will be down. Dorian Smith, Ian Logan and James Johnson will all be out this weekend."

Kelly also said on Tuesday that he expects linebacker Siddeeq Shabazz to play on Friday night.
