CPL puts training camps on hold

THE Canadian Premier League announced Friday afternoon the pre-season training for all of eight of its soccer clubs has been put on hold for 14 days effective immediately.

“The league has made this decision with input from medical experts and health officials to ensure a safe environment for our teams in the wake of COVID 19,” the CPL said in a release.

“We will maintain our consistent dialogue both internally and externally and as more information becomes available, we will continue to provide public updates. This includes details about potentially rescheduling or postponing matches as we move towards the season opening date of April 11, 2020.”

Valour FC is currently scheduled to open the season April 17 in Toronto against York9 FC. The Winnipeg-based soccer club kicked off their training camp last Monday.

“We fully support the decision and will await further guidance from (the league),” a Valour spokesperson said.
