Former Winnipeg Blue Bombers star quarterback Dieter Brock was charged with 15 counts of contempt of court and sentenced to 75 days in jail in Alabama on March 22 for failing to make alimony payments to his ex-wife.
Brock, 70, was released from Shelby County Jail on Monday after filing an appeal to the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals.
Brock also has a pending third-degree domestic violence charge for an incident that took place on Sept. 24, 2019.
The court date is set for April 20 in Pelham Municipal Court. Pelham is a city in Shelby County where Brock and his family used to live.
Nicknamed The Birmingham Rifle, Brock suited up for the Blue and Gold from 1974-83 and was named the league’s most valuable player in 1980 and 1981. Brock holds the record for all-time passing yards (29,623), TD passes (177) and completions (2,167) in Blue Bombers history.
After two seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, he finished his career in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams in 1985. With the Rams, Brock completed 60 per cent of his passes and threw for 16 touchdowns, 2,658 yards, and 13 interceptions while leading the team to the NFC Championship game.
Brock was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1995.
