THE 2019 Grey Cup champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers received the Order of the Buffalo Hunt from the provincial government on Tuesday.
The ceremony at IG Field was originally scheduled to take place a year ago but was delayed due to the pandemic.
It’s the fourth time in franchise history (1957, 1984 and 1988) the Bombers have received the honour.

Manitoba’s Order of the Buffalo Hunt was established in 1957 and is bestowed by the province on individuals and groups who demonstrate outstanding skills in the areas of leadership, service and community commitment. Recipients are chosen by Manitoba’s premier.
“The 2019 Grey Cup champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be the stuff of history and legend in Manitoba for many years,” said newly appointed Premier Kelvin Goertzen while wearing a blue Adam Bighill jersey.
“Part of that is because the team itself was very, very special with the season that was unpredictable and part of it is because it brought to this city a joy and a championship that it hadn’t experienced for far too long.”
Winnipeg Football Club president and CEO Wade Miller and chair of the board Dayna Spiring were in attendance to receive the award.
“It’s a great year and great to be back on the field here at IG and we really appreciate the support we’ve had from the province to get back on the field in front of our fans. It’s been tremendous,” Miller said.
“This is an honour we wanted to do a year ago but I’m glad we’re doing it today. We’ll do it again very soon.”
