Souris native Emily Tuttosi is heading to the Rugby World Cup this fall in New Zealand.

Team Canada head coach Kevin Rouet named his 32-woman roster on Wednesday. The 12-country event runs Oct. 8 to Nov. 12 in Auckland and Whangarei.

“It’s been a long journey to get to the national team and I am thankful for everyone and every opportunity that has been presented to me along the way,” Tuttosi told the Free Press.

“Getting the call from my coach that I was part of the World Cup squad was a dream come true and I’m excited to work towards bringing it home with such a special group.”

Tuttosi, who plays hooker, is a four-time Canada West all-star with the Calgary Dinos and a two-time Westman High School Rugby champion with the Souris Sabres. She currently plays in England’s top women’s rugby league with the Exeter Chiefs. She’s also a former captain of Canada’s under-20 national team.

Canada is the fourth-ranked team in the world and finished in fifth place at the last World Cup in 2017 in Ireland.

Tuttosi, the lone Manitoban on the roster, and the Canadians play their first Group B match on Oct. 9 against No. 13-ranked Japan. Canada will then challenge No. 6-ranked Italy on Oct. 16 and No. 5-ranked U.S. on Oct. 23.
