Crumb Queen bakery coming soon
Instagram Crumb Queen is set to open a permanent storefront in Osborne Village.
Honey cruller fans will soon be able to get their fix on the regular. Crumb Queen, the popular pop-up bakery founded by Winnipeg baker Cloe Wiebe, is moving into a permanent storefront at 166 Osborne St., in the former home of Stella’s Cafe. The menu promises to include breads, cookies and pastries — including Wiebe’s signature crullers. Crumb Queen will be sharing the space with Andy’s Lunch, an Italian-style sandwich concept from Wiebe’s partner and chef Andrew Koropatnick, previously of Oxbow Natural Wine Bar & Restaurant. Passero opens on Corydon
Chef Scott Bagshaw’s Italian eatery, Passero, is officially taking reservations at its new location in Little Italy. The fine-dining restaurant moved The Forks food hall this summer into a dedicated dining room at 774 Corydon Ave. — formerly home to Cocoabeans Gluten-Free, which has opened a new bakery on St. Anne’s Road. The relocation of Passero is part of a transitional year for the award-winning chef, who announced the closure of his third local restaurant, Máquè, earlier this year. New food and drinks at The Forks
Following the departure of Passero, The Forks has turned the resto’s former lunch counter into a pop-up cocktail bar. The new addition is a pilot project led by Winnipeg bartender Josey Krahn and the menu includes a rotating list of inventive alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Crafted Crust has also been added to the Market’s food offerings. The gourmet sandwich shop from the owners of PVG’s Street Eats, a local food truck specializing in decadent comfort food, features a lineup of pressed and submarine-style sandos.
A festivus for the foodies
The third annual MB Food Fest takes place this Sunday at the St. Norbert Arts Centre. Founded by entrepreneurs Shawn Brandson and Sherry Sobey, the one-day festival aims to highlight up-and-coming local food and beverage businesses. The event was previously held at Fort Gibraltar. More than 45 vendors will be offering products for sample and sale, including Chaps Peanut Butter, Feast of Africa, Wooden Gate Cider and more. Tickets are $25 each and available through mbfoodfest.ca. There are two time slots to choose from: 12:30 to 3 p.m. or 3:30 to 6 p.m.
