Northern Manitoba residents who heat their homes with propane will soon be looking at a bump in their bill.
The Public Utilities Board has approved a rate increase for Stittco Utilities Man Ltd., which will have rates go up by about 3.9 per cent (or roughly $60 per year), compared to what they had been paying monthly since August.
However, at the same time, the regulator also announced Thursday it had accepted a decrease in propane delivery rates of 3.2 per cent (or $50 a year).
The result: the overall propane bill increase for the average customer will be about $10 per year (or 0.6 per cent).
Stittco is a small public utility which distributes propane by pipeline to customers in Thompson, Flin Flon and Snow Lake.
The PUB says Stittco passes on its costs to buy propane directly to residential customers with no markups, with the rate increase due to market price increases.
