Hey there, time traveller!

With four local establishments represented, Winnipeg has earned a record number of spots on this year’s Canada’s 100 Best restaurant and bar listings.
Deer + Almond (Mikaela MacKenzie / Free Press files)
Chef Edward Lam of Yujiro Japanese Restaurant (Ruth Bonneville / Free Press files)
Turkish Eggs, one of the highlights of Clementine Café. (Phil Hossack / Free Press files)
The Roost (John Woods / Free Press files)
Deer + Almond, Clementine and Yujiro Japanese Restaurant were named among the best dining establishments in the country, while the Roost on Corydon Avenue was listed as one of the top bars at an award ceremony in Toronto on Monday night.
Canada’s 100 Best has been tabulating national restaurant rankings for the last decade. This year’s winners were picked by a group of 150 judges made up of culinary enthusiasts, food writers, critics, chefs and restaurateurs. Eateries are assessed on their service, decor, drink menu and food quality.
Deer + Almond has jumped to 39th place on the list, up from last year’s 59th spot. This is the first time Exchange District brunch spot Clementine (No. 74) and upscale Grant Avenue sushi restaurant Yujiro (No. 92) have made the cut.
This is also the first time the Roost (No.39), known for its treehouse vibes and creative cocktails, has made the best bar list, which has been running since 2018.
Other local restaurants and watering holes previously selected by Canada’s 100 Best include the now-shuttered Segovia, Máquè and Close Company; as well as Petit Socco, Langside Grocery, Patent 5 Distillery and Forth Bar.
