Carmen Prefontaine is the third registered candidate to become the city councillor in Elmwood-East Kildonan.
The City of Winnipeg employee and Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 500 vice-president confirmed her interest in the position earlier this month.
She has now registered for the byelection to fill the council seat that had been held by replace Jason Schreyer, who died suddenly in April.
The Winnipeg Labour Council endorsed Prefontaine as a potential candidate in June.
Prefontaine began working for the city about 15 years ago, initially with 311 and water and waste before moving to human resources.
Community advocate Emma Durand-Wood and child-care assistant Zekaria Selahadin are also running in the ward.
The byelection is Oct. 25.
