IQALUIT – RCMP in Iqaluit have lifted a nearly 14-hour shelter-in-place that started after shots were fired from a home on Tasilik Street.
RCMP say officers received reports of shots being fired from a home at 12:50 a.m. Saturday.
A news release from the Mounties says additional shots were fired from the home when police arrived on the scene, and the Mounties issued a shelter-in-place order via the Alert Ready System at 1:18 a.m.
Nearly 14 hours after the advisory was issued, RCMP said in a 5 p.m. Facebook update that the shelter-in-place advisory was lifted and people were free to return to the area.
Police say one person is in custody and an updated news release from the Mounties did not specify whether anyone was injured.
Police say officers will remain on the scene as they continue their investigation and there is no longer a threat to public safety.
