Hockey teams scramble after two city arenas put on ice

The arena, as well as the West Kildonan Memorial Arena, have had to close after failing inspections. Predictably, the city’s hockey community is in a tailspin because ice time is so precious.

“We’re now in panic mode,” said Bonni, president of the River East Royal Knights on Thursday. The Sawchuk arena is the team’s home rink.

Bonni, who is a living legend in Manitoba’s hockey community, said the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League club is scrambling to find ice time.

MONTREAL - AtkinsRéalis Group Inc. has signed a deal to buy C2AE Inc., a Michigan-based architecture and engineering firm.

Financial terms of the deal were not immediately available.

C2AE was founded in 1966 and is headquartered in Lansing, Mich.

It offers architecture, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering services and has a client base that includes state and local governments, transportation agencies and private-sector organizations.

It began with the bad news that top defenceman Josh Morrissey’s wrist issue is more serious than feared, and he likely won’t be back in the lineup any time soon. Then, veteran forward Vlad Namestnikov, coming off his best game of the young season, crashed into the boards at the end of morning skate, suffering an upper-body injury that sent him to the sidelines.

Off to the game itself, which began with Dylan DeMelo hitting the post on the first shift, a parade of Winnipeg penalties helping the home team build a healthy early lead and, last and certainly least, an eventual 4-3 overtime loss at United Center.

It actually could have been worse.
