A man smashed vehicle windows and held a knife to two people’s throats in a series of violent incidents during a span of only a few minutes in Tyndall Park on Wednesday.

A man was seen acting erratically at 10:10 a.m. Using the knife, he smashed a passenger side window on a 2014 Honda CRV stopped at the intersection of Keewatin Street and Burrows Avenue, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Thursday. He then smashed the driver’s side window of an empty 2022 Honda Civic in a parking lot on the 800 block of Keewatin.

The man then smashed two windows at a restaurant on the same block, causing more than $5,000 damage.

Cleaners in hazardous materials suits wipe down the entrance of the Shoppers Drug Mart on Keewatin Street on Wednesday afternoon. A man held a knife to an employee’s throat and caused about $80,000 in damage.

“Employees held the doors closed, preventing the suspect from entering,” the WPS said.

The man then smashed a passenger-side window on a 2017 Chevy Silverado stopped at the intersection of Keewatin and Burrows. The attacker then went to the driver’s side, held the knife to the driver’s throat and threatened to stab him.

The man then put the knife to the throat of an employee at the nearby Shoppers Drug Mart. After letting her go, he caused about $80,000 in damage at the store.

Police arrested a man on the 700 block of Keewatin shortly before 10:15 a.m. and seized a knife.

No injuries were reported, the WPS said.

Manny Rae Chudrick, 26, has been charged four counts of failing to comply with conditions of a release order, three counts of mischief under $5,000, two counts each of mischief over $5,000 and assault with a weapon, and single counts of possession of a weapon, uttering threats and resisting a peace officer.

He was wanted on an arrest warrant for failing to comply with conditions of a release order. Chudrick was detained in custody.

In 2018, Chudrick was one of five people arrested and charged with theft-related offences after patrolling officers saw a stolen vehicle in the area of Notre Dame Avenue and St. James Street early on Sept. 24.

Police followed the vehicle to the 300 block of Blake Street. Officers arrested two men, two women and a 16-year-old girl. Three of the suspects, including Chudrick, were alleged to be involved in liquor store robberies.

Chudrick, who was 19 at the time, was charged in 10 separate thefts from Liquor Marts, where $6,400 in merchandise was stolen. He was also charged with possession of goods obtained by crime over $5,000 and mischief.
