Police arrest man wanted in connection to 2024 homicide

Winnipeg police say a third suspect has been arrested in connection to a September 2024 homicide.

The suspect, 25-year-old Chad Jason Dandan, was arrested in Surrey, B.C., on a Canada-wide warrant. He has been charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and extortion and was flown to Winnipeg where he remains in custody.

The victim, 22-year-old Zeyad Shammo of Ontario, was found dead at a home on the 100 block of Bristol Avenue on Sept. 13, 2024.

Sonny Balemba and Robert James Chaykowski, both 26, were previously arrested and charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and extortion. Chaykowski was also charged with four counts of fail to comply with release order. They were detained in custody.

Bothwell cheese among dozens of brands of recalled cheese

Bothwell Cheese’s Shredded Three Cheese Nacho Blend has been recalled by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency due to listeria contamination.

The cheese, sold in 400 gram and 1 kilogram sizes, was sold in retail stores across Canada. The agency asks anyone who purchased the cheese to not consume, use, sell or distribute it.

A complete list of the recalled cheese products can be found on the federal government’s website.
