MOON ALERT: There are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions today. The full moon peaks in Aquarius at 9:36 a.m.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)

You might feel tension with romantic partners. Because of the full-moon energy, you might also feel at odds with a friend, member of a group or even your kids. This is gone in about a day or so. Don’t get your belly in a rash.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

You might be pulled between the demands of home and family versus the demands of your career, job or responsibilities to society. This is because of the full moon. Each full moon is different and this one encourages your focus on home and family.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

Pay attention to everything you say and do because this is a mildly accident-prone day due to the full moon. Take a moment before you act rashly or say something you might later regret. Be aware of your surroundings.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

You’re never casual about money and this day is no exception. The full moon might create confusion, tension or disputes between your wealth and what somebody else claims or wants. This includes debt and discussions about inheritances. Stay chill.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

The only full moon opposite your sign all year is taking place, which could create tension between you and those who are closest to you — especially spouses, partners and dear friends. Don’t make a big deal about anything. This tension is gone in 24 hours.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Be patient with co-workers. Likewise, be accommodating with people who might be involved in health procedures. You might need more patience than usual when dealing with a pet? That’s because this area could be stressed by the full moon.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

This is a dicey day for social occasions, the arts, friendships and especially romance. (It can also be stressful for parents dealing with their kids.) On the upside, you might see things you never realized before. You might have increased clarity about something, especially a relationship. However, feelings could be running high.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

You might feel you’re caught in a tug-of-war between trying to please the demands of home and family versus dealing with your career and your outer world. You can’t please both. For this particular full moon, you can’t ignore your career and responsibilities to society.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

The full moon can introduce an accident-prone influence for your sign. This means you should be mindful and alert. Pay attention to everything you say and do. Slow down and keep your eyes open. This applies to driving, jogging, walking and talking!

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Financial issues might come to a head. This might concern your debt or how you’re handling money and your possessions. It might also relate to shared property or something to do with something someone else owns. It is what it is.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

The full moon is in your sign which is why you might feel tension dealing with those who are closest to you. Something you’ve been working on might be completed. Certainly, your feelings are heightened and your focus on partners and close friends is stronger.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

Relations with co-workers might be strained because of the energy of the full moon. However, it’s also possible you will wrap up some old business and feel good about it. Meanwhile, increased chaos and busyness at home continue.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Musician Geddy Lee (1953) shares your birthday. You are positive, energetic and will work tirelessly to achieve success. You’re protective and influential. This is a year of new beginnings, adventures and major changes. What you do now will bring great benefits in the future. Prepare for leadership. Take action and define your goals.

Landlord asks city to work with him over homeless camp after appeal option turfed

Scott Billeck 4 minute read Monday, Jul. 27, 2026

A West Broadway landlord says the City of Winnipeg has rejected his attempt to appeal an order that requires him to clear a homeless encampment from his riverfront property.

Marvin Sharp, CEO of Astroid Management Ltd., which operates the Pen-Eve Apartments at 35 Balmoral St., said Monday the decision is absurd since his firm was given almost no time to respond to the order.

The city denied his request for an appeal hearing because he failed to respond before the July 18 compliance deadline.

Sharp contends that was impossible because the compliance order, dated July 10, did not arrive at his office until July 17, leaving him just one day to file an appeal. The city clerk’s office is closed on weekends.

‘Eight credible threats’ against Hydro employees: CEO

Chris Kitching 6 minute read Monday, Jul. 27, 2026

Manitoba Hydro president and CEO Allan Danroth took aim at critics and revealed he and staff members have been threatened while defending the Crown corporation’s plan for three new combustion turbines Monday.

Without identifying individuals, Danroth said “constant, uninformed criticism” of Hydro and misinformation has eroded public trust and contributed to hostilities and an unsafe workplace for employees.

“Manitoba Hydro is currently managing eight credible threats against our employees, five of them directed at me personally,” Danroth told a Public Utilities Board hearing in Winnipeg.

“More troubling is these threats are increasingly affecting our front-line workforce. In the last year, my employees have been threatened with weapons, including guns, while performing their duties, and in one recent incident a homeowner directed his dogs to attack one of our meter readers.”

Many of this country’s public utilities are virtual monopolies, and because of that, their ability to set rates and their long-term capital plans need review in order to protect their ratepayers.

Supervised consumption site to open Aug. 11

Scott Billeck 2 minute read Yesterday at 9:29 AM CDT

The province’s first supervised consumption site is set for an official launch on Aug. 11, a provincial spokesperson has confirmed.

The 366 Henry Ave. site, which is being run by the Aboriginal Health and Wellness Centre of Winnipeg, will have two days of training for staff members later this week, before opening for full operation in the parking lot in two weeks.

The building is still undergoing renovations, and operations will eventually be moved inside the former Western Fabrics building.

In the interim, mobile units will be set up in the parking lot, which has been fenced off for privacy reasons.

Former teacher would suit up with Bombers in just ninth game of three-down loop career

Taylor Allen 6 minute read Yesterday at 6:02 PM CDT

In a way, Micah Vanterpool’s brief stint as a Grade 3 teacher in his hometown of Tulsa, Okla., prepared him for life in the CFL.

The third-year offensive lineman for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers only has eight career games on his resumé as he has bounced around between the practice roster, starting lineup and injury report.

But thanks to his time in the classroom, he’s developed the patience that’s required by a young American trying to make a name for oneself in the three-down loop.

Vanterpool got into teaching after failing to make the New England Patriots in 2023. He said goodbye to the education profession the following year and took his talents up north to Winnipeg.
