ARIES (March 21-April 19)

Although you might be focused on work, your best bet is to relax as much as possible and focus on artistic, creative projects. After all, you are the artisan of the zodiac. (You can do anything with your hands.) This entire day is a moon alert, which is excellent for creativity and shmoozing!

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

This is the perfect day to entertain at home. It’s also a good day to explore fun activities with kids, sporting events, the arts, romantic dates and a pleasant stroll outside, especially if you check out other people’s gardens. This entire day is a moon alert. Restrict spending to food and gas.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

Despite a restless feeling you might have to get out and do something. Because of the placement of the moon, you will also enjoy relaxing at home and taking it easy. Romance might be very promising. (One can always hope.)

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

Seek out siblings, relatives and neighbours, because you’re eager to share your thoughts. A short trip might appeal. Be aware there’s a moon alert all day, so restrict your spending to food and gas. Avoid important decisions. Don’t volunteer for anything.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

Be careful! With the sun, Mercury and Jupiter in your sign, you’re ready to set out doing exactly what you want. However, all day is a moon alert! Furthermore, the moon is in your money house. (Gulp.) Definitely restrict spending to food and gas. Make no important decisions.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

The moon is in your sign and for this entire day, there’s a moon alert. Be aware of this! Don’t volunteer for anything. Don’t agree to anything important. Avoid important decisions. Restrict spending to food and gas. However — have fun! Be creative! Socialize!

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

You’re popular! And because there’s a moon alert all day, it’s a wonderful day to shmooz and socialize with everyone. Just remember not to agree to anything important or make big decisions. And don’t shop! (Except for food and gas.)

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Travel appeals. Your ability to talk to authority figures is strong now. However, because there’s a moon alert all day, keep things light. Get information but make no decisions. Restrict spending to food and gas. Get your info and wait until tomorrow to act.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

You’re high-viz. People notice you. This is fine but don’t stick your neck out by making important declarations. Avoid big decisions. Don’t volunteer for anything, because there’s a moon alert all day. Don’t shop. (Except food and gas.)

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

You make a lovely impression on everyone. Someone might ask for your advice about how to make something more attractive. However, it is a poor day to answer important questions due to the moon alert all day. Restrict spending. Enjoy socializing and learning from others.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

A friendship or a romantic interest might begin with someone “different,” because romance is favoured right now. However, you have the energy to work hard even if you face shortages and delays due to the moon alert all day.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

It’s in your best interest to be co-operative and accommodating with someone else. It’s important to know there’s a moon alert in effect all day which means avoiding spending money and making important decisions. But you can carry on “as usual” with your work.

Trailblazing Western Scrap Metals heavy-equipment operator relishes role at massive crane’s control

David Sanderson 7 minute read 10:15 AM CDT

Less than five per cent of heavy-equipment operators in the country are women but that number is trending upward, according to a study conducted by trade magazine Crane & Hoist Canada.

It was reported that in Ontario roughly eight per cent of jobs in the transport and heavy-equipment field are currently held by women. Furthermore, in 2024 almost 20 per cent of graduates at an Edmonton-based heavy-equipment operator training school were female, the article stated.

That brings us to Harmony Guspodarchuk, the first female crane operator in the 70-year history of Western Scrap Metals, a family-owned business at 18 Sutherland Ave.

Three years ago, Guspodarchuk literally stepped into the driver’s seat of a 27,500-kilogram, Liebherr C 924 Heavy Lift Litronic crane. The 29-year-old hasn’t looked back much since.

PCs say Hutterite colonies singled out by Bill 21

Alex Lambert 4 minute read 2:01 AM CDT

SOURIS — Members of Hutterite colonies in the province took aim at the NDP government’s proposed changes to drinking water legislation during a public meeting Thursday in Souris.

The meeting was hosted by Progressive Conservative MLA Colleen Robbins (Spruce Woods) to hear from rural residents about their concerns over Bill 21, which the government says will improve oversight on wells and other water systems in the province.

“There’s not enough clarity, but I feel that the overreach that this bill will bring is not clearly defined, and it could have a lot of negative consequences,” attendee Gilbert Hofer, a member of Green Acres colony near Wawanesa, said after the meeting, which drew about 20 people.

The legislation would allow public health officers to designate the type of water source based on its intended use, water quality and use duration rather than solely the number of connections it has.

Unsafe conditions force Sea Bears, Honey Badgers into winner-take-all CEBL final in Winnipeg Saturday

BRAMPTON — The Canadian Elite Basketball League’s new Finals format lasted one minute and 46 seconds.

And it’s possible even that was too long.

What was supposed to be a historic best-of-three series between the Winnipeg Sea Bears and the Brampton Honey Badgers will now return to the league’s previous format of a single-game elimination. Wednesday’s Game 1 at the CAA Centre in Southern Ontario was cancelled shortly after tip-off due to condensation on the court, which made the playing surface unsafe for competition.

The championship will flip to the Manitoba capital for a single, winner-take-all contest at Canada Life Centre on Saturday (2:30 p.m.).

‘Disrespectful’: residents frustrated after Wyatt arrives hour late to committee meeting

Joyanne Pursaga 3 minute read Yesterday at 4:37 PM CDT

Several Winnipeggers attending a city development hearing on Thursday expressed frustration that one councillor arrived about an hour late, delaying the matter from being heard.

Coun. Russ Wyatt, who continues to attend city hall while facing criminal charges, began participating in the 9:30 a.m. East Kildonan-Transcona community committee meeting at 10:35 a.m.

A resident who hoped to speak at the meeting about a development plan in south Transcona noted the tardiness led the committee to bump the topic down on its agenda, while dozens waited to speak on it.

Christina Pyra eventually opted to leave city hall instead of waiting for her turn to make a presentation, to avoid missing a work commitment.
