LOS ANGELES (AP) — “The Pitt” keeps its Emmy streak for best drama going, and Jean Smart of “Hacks” keeps stacking the wins.

The hospital drama starring Noah Wyle won the top prize in its genre for the second consecutive year. Wyle took the best actor in a drama trophy at Monday night’s Emmy Awards.

Smart won her fifth straight Emmy for lead actress in a comedy series. It’s her eighth trophy overall, which ties the all-time performer record shared by Cloris Leachman and Julia Louis-Dreyfus — and on Monday, Allison Janney joined the group too. Smart became the first woman to win best actress for each season of a show’s run.

“Widow’s Bay” won best comedy series and three acting awards, including Matthew Rhys’ win for best actor in a comedy. Kate O’Flynn won the first award of the night — best supporting actress in a comedy — and Stephen Root received the best supporting actor.

The Bob Hope Humanitarian Award was presented to actor Michael J. Fox.

Mariska Hargitay hosted the ceremony at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Last weekend, dozens of Emmy winners were announced, including Hargitay winning two trophies.

A legacy cast in bronze

Janice Filmon has a new accolade to add to the list of honours she’s received over the years.

The volunteer, philanthropist and former lieutenant-governor of Manitoba was inducted into the Winnipeg Citizens Hall of Fame on Wednesday. A bronze bust of Filmon was unveiled in Assiniboine Park, where it joins 51 others near the Leaf.

“It’s exciting,” Filmon said. “I don’t remember being so surprised in my adult life as I was when I was told that this was happening.”

In addition to serving as Manitoba’s 25th lieutenant-governor from 2015 to 2022, Filmon has chaired the Nellie McClung Foundation, the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation and co-chaired Leadership Winnipeg.

DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: My husband, who earns a hefty income, stayed in the city most of the summer working, except for a few long weekends with the kids and me at the cottage. He has giant work projects that need daily tending.

I work hard, too, with our four kids, two dogs and a cat. But I have to tell you I got a shock last week after coming home to organize my family team for a thorough cleaning of our three-storey home.

You’ll never guess what they found up in the attic — hidden boxes of sexy women’s lingerie that all looks brand-new.

I’ve kept my mouth shut so far, but my mind is spinning.

You’d only regret not acting on longtime crush

Maureen Scurfield 4 minute read Yesterday at 2:00 AM CDT

DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: For years I had a big crush on my older sister’s hot-looking best friend who was often over at our house. My sister found out about my crush and told me, “I’ll kill you, if you go after my friend!” I was crushed at the time, and kept my distance, although I still had erotic dreams about that girl a lot.

This fall my sister is going to university out of province, and her friend is still here in Winnipeg, going to the same college as I am. I ran into her recently at a mall. She looked me up and down and said, “Wow!” Was she teasing me like a little boy or was she actually flirting with me now my sister’s out of the way?

More importantly, do I need my sister’s permission to ask out this friend of hers now she lives in Ontario? Please help!
