WINNIPEG – Bon Jovi is hoping Winnipeg fans will join them in the circle.

The New Jersey rock band will play Canad Inns Stadium July 17, 2010 as part of their forthcoming The Circle World Tour. Ticket information has not yet been announced.

The band announced the tour during a press conference Thursday in front of New Jersey’s New Meadowlands Stadium, where they also performed six songs.

Bon Jovi will tour for most of 2010 and 2011 playing 135 shows in 30 countries.

“Bon Jovi is a band that continues to reestablish themselves at the top of the rock music game. They’re going to play a number of major stadiums and we’re thrilled that Winnipeg and Canad Inns Stadium has now hit that list,” said Kevin Donnelly, MTS Centre senior vice president and general manager, who is working in a partnership with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to bring concerts to the stadium, including this past June’s Rock on the Range multi-band event and AC/DC’s Aug. 22 show.

Bon Jovi last played Winnipeg in 2007 as part of their Lost Highway Tour in support of their country album of the same name, selling out the MTS Centre in minutes.

“It was an over-the-top success, and until Metallica, it was our highest-attended show ever,” Donnelly said, adding both shows attracted more than 16,000 people, with Metallica selling more because of general admission on the floor.

Bon Jovi’s new album, The Circle, will be released Nov. 10.

Hydro’s unpredictable fortunes

Hope for rain. Or snow. Or both. There’s a truism buried deep in a financial outlook in Manitoba Hydro’s 2025-26 annual report, released in late September: “Manitoba Hydro’s net income is highly dependent on several uncontrollable factors.”

Tread carefully as it’s easy to get into an argument, especially with your kids or even a romantic partner. Very likely the dispute will be about mutual expenses, shared property or perhaps differing values. Do what you can to keep the peace.

Riding the Unity Bus to rally support for Canada in Alberta

Riding the Unity Bus to rally support for Canada in Alberta

Melissa Martin 8 minute read Updated: Yesterday at 9:57 PM CDT

WAINWRIGHT, Alta. — The Unity Bus arrives right on time, pulling into a parking lot on the edge of this town of about 6,600 people close to the Alberta-Saskatchewan border. As the vehicle slows to a halt, resplendent in its patriotic red-and-white paint, a small group of supporters stand waiting, decked in their own maple leaf garb.

The Unity Bus’s doors open and former Alberta deputy premier Thomas Lukaszuk bounds to the ground. The supporters, volunteers with Lukaszuk’s Forever Canadian campaign, welcome him with applause; he greets them with open arms. He knows many by name, having been to Wainwright four times; some of them fondly call him “the boss.”

“Do you need some stickers?” he asks. “Do you need some swag to give away?”

It’s a chilly Thanksgiving Monday morning on the eastern edge of Alberta. A sharp wind nips at exposed skin and drab grey clouds hang low in the sky. Such weather does not encourage high spirits, but Lukaszuk and these volunteers can’t afford to let theirs falter: in just one week, on Oct. 19, Albertans will vote on a historic question on whether to remain in Canada.

Creatures’ comfort key to coping with loss

Maureen Scurfield 4 minute read 2:00 AM CDT

DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: Not long ago I lost my husband to illness at far too young an age. My spouse was a great guy, but I do want another one.

I just want to pass on a little tip. When my husband was dying, he encouraged me to bring home warm and loving pets to our acreage just outside the city. They were my saviours when my husband was ill.

Since he has died, they continue to help me keep warm, happy and affectionate. They were my greatest comfort in the later stages when my man was in too much pain to hold me or be held. The cats and the dog would welcome me home from the hospital and transfer their cuddling to me, giving me all the attention I needed, and I always felt so loved.

I have been dating a fair bit for a fairly recent widow because I’m ready to be held and loved, and I feel my husband and the pets saying, “Way to go.”

The major assumption Manitoba Hydro undertakes is the weather. Hydro projected a $214 million profit for the 2025-26 fiscal year. On Sept. 29, it reported a $446 million loss. It took on additional debt due to $751 million in operating losses. In addition, Hydro stated the fiscal results for 2025-26 were “significantly influenced by circumstances largely beyond Hydro’s control.”
