Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 07/07/2010 (5903 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
— The Bombers have added DE Armond Willis (6-2, 232 Florida International) to their practice roster while releasing WR David Ball. As well, DB Donald Brown, Jr. has returned after being released during training camp and after the Bombers discovered Keyuo Craver’s torn ACL will cost him his entire 2010 season. Willis, 23, participated in a mini-camp with the Detroit Lions after going undrafted in the 2010 NFL Draft.
Both Brandon Stewart and Alex Suber did not practise again on Tuesday, although CB LaVar Glover was back at work. Head coach Paul LaPolice said at least one of Stewart and Suber would be back in the lineup with Clint Kent also ready to return.
— A couple of dust-ups at practice Tuesday with Moton Hopkins and Obby Khan getting after it, followed by Don Oramansionwu and Kelly Butler. Here’s LaPolice on scraps between teammates: "They’ve got to learn how to practise. They’ve got to have a high tempo, but also we’re not playing against each other, we’re playing for each other. That’s what we have to learn. Some days it can get hard."
— Strange, but true: Bomber LB Joe Lobendahn, named the CFL’s Defensive Player of the Week for the opening games, will receive diddly and squat for the honour. Ditto for Saskatchewan receiver Andy Fantuz (Top Canadian), Hamilton return man Marcus Thigpen (special teams) and Rider QB Darian Durant (offence). That doesn’t sit well in this corner and the CFL and the sponsor, Gibson’s, should do something about it lickety-split.
— The Argos get DT Adriano Belli back from a one-game suspension this week. "Like always, I play on the line, and when it is good it is good, and when it is bad, it is bad," Belli told The Toronto Sun. "I’m not going to change the way I play, but I have to be cautious. The refs are after me, but they have a job to do as well. I’m going to try to crush the quarterback as many times as I can, and be a good boy doing it."
— The Stampeders continue to rave about the work of Romby Bryant, who came to Calgary in last September’s blockbuster trade that included Arjei Franklin and saw Odell Willis, Jabari Arthur and Titus Ryan head to Winnipeg. Bryant had six catches for 113 yards in last week’s win over Toronto.
"(Romby’s) done such a great job," QB Henry Burris told The Calgary Herald. "We knew he had potential out of this world and he’s been just that. He’s a big-play guy after the catch and also a big-play guy without the ball in his hands. He does things to help out other players. It’s always great to have that added weapon because you know when you get the ball in his hands you can just kick back, relax, and watch the amazing things that a guy like that can do."

Tuned in, turned on
More than 7 million Canadians watched the CFL’s opening week on TV, with the average
audience for the four games exceeding one million. 1.4 million watched the Sask.-
Montreal classic on Canada Day with the other games drawing these numbers: Toronto-
Calgary (658,000); Winnipeg-Hamilton (882,000) and B.C.-Edmonton (921,000).
Ground game
Fred Reid’s 98-yard rushing effort, as solid as it was, was
actually the fourth best total of Week 1 after Jamal Robertson of
B.C. (168), Edmonton’s Arkee Whitlock and Joffrey Reynolds of
Calgary (116 each) and Saskatchewan’s Wes Cates (112).
One more makes three
Bomber defensive end Phillip Hunt
has been credited with a third sack
after reviews of last week’s win over
Hamilton.
