A pole artist, a singer, an escape artist and two dance groups from Manitoba will join 77 other talents to face the judges in Season 2 of Canada’s Got Talent, which premieres on March 21 on Citytv.

Singer Christopher Magas, escape artist Dean Gunnarson, pole artist Tara Meyer and dance acts L.I.V.E and Marquis will vie for the coveted $150,000 cash prize and financial advice, all courtesy of CIBC to help realize their ambitions, plus the opportunity to perform in America’s Got Talent presents Superstars Live at Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Winnipeg-based dance troupe Marquis, composed of 28 members ranging in age between 15 to 18 years old, will make their television debut in the first episode.

“We got a call for the show a little over a month before we had to film,” choreographer Damien Lavergne, who devised the group’s routine, says. “We practised intensely, almost every weekend for around one and a half hours per session, to prepare.”

The Marquis team is made up of high-schoolers who all attend Marquis Dance Academy in Sage Creek. None of the dancers had ever entered a show like this before.

“It was a surreal experience for them to go on stage like that, with a big set, on a reality TV show. I was super proud of them for giving an awesome performance; they killed it,” he says.

The second season of Canada’s Got Talent features a host of talent, from singers and dancers to magicians, extreme sports shows and death-defying acts, who will perform in front of judges Howie Mandel, Lilly Singh, Trish Stratus and Kardinal Offishall.

A total of 110 acts auditioned for a spot with 82 being spotlighted in the series. Auditions were filmed in October last year and semifinals were filmed in January. The live two-hour finale will air on May 16.
