The Costume Museum of Canada’s latest display, featuring wedding gowns from a range of decades, opens today as part of First Fridays, and as well as being able to view the gowns, visitors will also be able to purchase vintage wedding dresses.

There are a total of eight dresses in the exhibit from the 20th century, from 1906 up to 1995.

“We have items in a flapper style from the 1920s, some pieces from the ’30s to the ’50s,” says museum president Chris Higgins.

“One piece which is of particular interest is by Canadian designer Marilyn Brooks. It was part of her fashion show and it is absolutely incredible — it’s a Snow White wedding dress from 1985.”

The dresses on sale, which are not part of the museum’s collection, range in price from $100 to $200.

“A large number of gowns are available at approximately $100. We also have a number of wedding-dress patterns and a large amount of lace and beadwork that is also for sale,” Higgins says.

The exhibit and sale runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m today. After that, visitors can view and purchase dresses during the museum’s open hours on Thursday afternoons (12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.) and Saturday afternoons (1 p.m. to 3 p.m.). The sale and exhibition is on for the next 60 days.

The museum, located on the fourth floor at 70 Arthur St., also accepts donations of vintage clothing, fabrics and sewing supplies.
