MOON ALERT: There are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions. The moon is in Scorpio.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)

The day is a mixed bag. In one way, you feel confident about dealing with social situations, your kids, and the arts in a way that is realistic and doable. (This is reassuring.) And yet, when it comes to issues at home, especially dealing with a parent, you feel unsure of things.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

This is an excellent day to make decisions about redecorating, remodelling or entertaining because you’re in a sensible frame of mind when it comes to improving your domestic world. Conversations might be confusing.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

You’ll enjoy discussions with older friends or members of groups who are senior or in charge because they will welcome your grounded and serious input. You might have sensible recommendations about how to improve something. However, money issues might confuse. Tread carefully.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

Financial discussions with bosses, parents and people in authority will be practical. You’ll be pleased with what is agreed upon. However, in general terms, you feel more tired. It’s harder to rev your engines, and also harder to defend yourself.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

You have strong ideas about travel, higher education, politics, religion and publishing because you’re in a practical frame of mind, but you also see the best way to create an attractive look. (Don’t second-guess yourself, which you might be doing.)

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Discussions with friends and groups might be confusing. (You might feel disappointed at your ability to assert yourself.) Nevertheless, when working behind the scenes, you’ll see practical ways to deal with shared property, inheritances and how to divide expenses with someone.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

You’ll impress others with your sensible suggestions about how to make improvements — perhaps how to make something look better. Or perhaps how to help people get along. Whatever the case, your approach will be doable and sensible. (Note that discussions with bosses might be confusing.)

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Others will admire you because you’re full of practical ideas that can improve things related to your work, health or a pet. They might be fiscal ideas related to saving money or they could be time-saving recommendations. (Steer clear of politics and religion.)

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

You love to travel, and this is a fabulous day to make plans to do so because not only do you have realistic ideas, you won’t overlook details and you will easily tick all the boxes. However, discussions about shared property, joint expenses or inheritances might be fuzzy.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

You hate waste. Furthermore, you’re a practical sign willing to work for what is important to you. You might get the financial and practical support to make improvements at home or to your family. This will please you. Nevertheless, discussions with partners and spouses might confuse.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

It’s hard to defend your own best interests at work. Somehow your heart just isn’t in it. Fortunately, discussions with partners and close friends are practical, pleasant and feasible. In fact, you will be objective and productive in all your discussions.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

Parents should be extra-vigilant because it’s easy to kid yourself about something related to your children. You might make an incorrect assumption. You might think you know where they are — but you don’t. Likewise, romance is on shaky ground as well. Fortunately, it’s a solid day at work.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Late celebrity chef, author, travel documentarian Anthony Bourdain (1956-2018) shared your birthday. You’re a compassionate, intuitive visionary. You have a mercurial intellect and a changeable behaviour. This year holds exciting changes and increased personal freedom. Stay flexible so you can act quickly on new opportunities. Expect to meet new friends. Travel will expand your horizons.

A downtown Winnipeg comedy club, Yuk Yuk’s, closed after being one of the company’s worst performing locations across Canada.

“We’ve opened many clubs,” said Mark Breslin, Yuk Yuk’s founder. “They’re like oil wells — some of them gush, some of them trickle and some of them are just dry.

“You never absolutely know which is going to be which.”

The franchise counts at least 10 locations nationally.

‘Eight credible threats’ against Hydro employees: CEO

Chris Kitching 6 minute read Monday, Jul. 27, 2026

Manitoba Hydro president and CEO Allan Danroth took aim at critics and revealed he and staff members have been threatened while defending the Crown corporation’s plan for three new combustion turbines Monday.

Without identifying individuals, Danroth said “constant, uninformed criticism” of Hydro and misinformation has eroded public trust and contributed to hostilities and an unsafe workplace for employees.

“Manitoba Hydro is currently managing eight credible threats against our employees, five of them directed at me personally,” Danroth told a Public Utilities Board hearing in Winnipeg.

“More troubling is these threats are increasingly affecting our front-line workforce. In the last year, my employees have been threatened with weapons, including guns, while performing their duties, and in one recent incident a homeowner directed his dogs to attack one of our meter readers.”

Free Press staff 2 minute read 8:03 PM CDT

Manitoba got top marks from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business for internal trade barrier reduction.

The business entity released its annual interprovincial co-operation report card earlier this month. Manitoba scored an “A” and was top of the class compared to fellow provinces.

The CFIB noted Manitoba has introduced legislation to improve the exchange of goods and services between reciprocating jurisdictions.

Manitoba and New Brunswick led the way in implementing direct-to-consumer alcohol sales without extra administrative hurdles or price markups.
