AC/DC leaves Winnipeg crowd thunderstruck

Rob Williams 5 minute read Monday, Sep. 21, 2026

AC/DC proved once again that rock ‘n’ roll ain’t noise pollution.

A rowdy stadium of about 35,000 people at Princess Auto Stadium couldn’t agree more as the Australian rock legends made their first trip to the city since 2015 on their PWR/UP tour, cranking out two hours and 20 minutes of raw and raunchy high-voltage material, a mix of blues, crunchy power chords, melodic riffs and double entendres that spanned five decades.

Their wide-ranging appeal was apparent in the demographic makeup of the crowd, which ranged from young children to seniors, many clad in $30 glowing devil horns from the well-stocked merch booth that also offered posters, banners, beer koozies, lanyards, tour books and T-shirts.

There is no one in music quite like guitar god Angus Young. He is 71, but onstage he is ageless, a hyperactive teenager dressed in his signature blue schoolboy uniform and yellow and blue cap, running around, duck-walking and leaping in the air while cranking out riff after riff and extended solos on his trusty black Gibson SG.

Accept the fact you’re a sensitive soul

Maureen Scurfield 6 minute read Yesterday at 2:00 AM CDT

DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: I’m 30, and recently met a girl eight years younger than I am. While we had a great time the first weeks going out for dinners, to the bar and back to my place to make love, she’s now thrown up a big wall!

She left very early in the morning yesterday. I yelled that I wanted to see her again real soon, as she went out the door. But she hasn’t replied to my texts or phone calls since! I’ve reached out, four or five times. I feel like I’m doing something wrong, but I can’t help feeling a lot for her! What should I do?

— Longing for More, River Heights

Dear Longing: Stop trying to reconnect now. By not replying, she’s telling you she’s not interested. You don’t need more of this rejection pain in your life, and you don’t need all this uncertainty and obsessing.

The artificial intelligence boom is inducing panic about the makeup of Manitoba’s future workforce and influencing new post-secondary application trends.

What remains a constant, says the economist who oversees the University of Manitoba, is the often-overlooked value of a liberal arts degree.

“I’ve always believed in it being a foundation for lifelong learning,” said Michael Benarroch, president and vice-chancellor of the largest post-secondary institute in the province.

“Even more so, in a world of AI, where AI is going to do certain tasks, I think humanities education and social sciences education is going to become even more important.”

Manitoba’s premier pledges to continue allowing parents to pull their kids from health class if content — be it related to human sexuality, substance use or otherwise — clashes with personal beliefs.

Wab Kinew said Tuesday the government’s overhaul of phys-ed and health curriculum in Manitoba schools won’t impact the ability for parents to opt-out of a lesson and deliver material as they see fit.

“As a parent, you are your child’s first and most important teacher and that will always be the case,” Kinew said, surrounded by hundreds of teenagers on the football field outside Kelvin High School during an announcement Tuesday.

More than 100 schools are taking part in a voluntary pilot project this fall. It’s the first systematic review of this curriculum in decades. The changes to kindergarten-to-Grade 12 courses will be mandated to all schools in September 2028.
