THE Manitoba Museum is putting out a call for former staff and volunteers to attend its first-ever employee reunion on Nov. 12.

“Do you remember when the Nonsuch came to Winnipeg? Or when the Golden Boy was on proud display in Alloway Hall? If you worked or volunteered at the Manitoba Museum in the past 40 years, the museum would love to hear from you,” the institution said in a news release.

Attendees at the reunion at 7 p.m. on Nov. 12 will be the first to receive copies of Manitoba Treasures, a new publication highlighting some of the museum’s most significant artifacts and specimens. The museum galleries will be open for touring, and entertainment and refreshments will be provided.

RCMP charge N.D. man after driver flees Emerson border crossing

Free Press staff 2 minute read Yesterday at 1:57 PM CDT

A North Dakota man faces a string of charges after police say he fled the Emerson border crossing, leading RCMP on a pursuit along Highway 75.

Emerson RCMP were notified just before 6:30 p.m. Saturday that a man entering Canada from North Dakota had sped away from the port of entry after Canada Border Services Agency officers flagged him for a secondary screening.

Officers from several RCMP detachments and the Integrated Border Enforcement Team were sent to Highway 75.

Police said Morris RCMP tried unsuccessfully to stop the vehicle south of the town. Police later blocked Highway 75 at Provincial Road 210, but said the driver went around police vehicles, drove through a ditch and narrowly missed an officer before continuing north toward Winnipeg.

Canada-U.S. trade relationship is broken, but the damage can — and will — be repaired

Tom Brodbeck 5 minute read 1:35 PM CDT

Canada needs to get serious about diversifying its trade beyond the United States. But at the same time, Canadians should expect relations with the U.S. to normalize after Donald Trump is no longer in the White House.

For generations, Canada-U.S. trade was considered almost a fact of geography. The two countries share the world’s longest undefended border, deeply integrated supply chains and a century of commercial relationships.

Canadian manufacturers depend on American customers. American manufacturers depend on Canadian suppliers. Energy, agriculture, automotive production and countless other industries operate across the border as though it barely exists.

That isn’t going to change dramatically, even in the midst of a bitter trade war unleashed by the U.S. president.

Jets suspend goaltender Hellebuyck for failure to report to training camp

The Canadian Press 2 minute read Updated: 4:20 PM CDT

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Jets suspended goaltender Connor Hellebuyck on Wednesday night for failing to report to training camp.

The team said general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff would address the media Thursday morning. It did not specify the length of the suspension for the U.S. Olympic star.

Hellebuyck, a three-time Vezina Trophy winner and 2025 Hart Trophy winner as NHL MVP, publicly requested a trade from the team on Aug. 27.

In a statement posted on X by his agent, Ray Petkau, Hellebuyck said he had privately requested a trade “several months ago” and that he gave the organization time to address it “quietly and respectfully.”
