‘Food Truck Wars’ added to Manyfest this year

Winnipeg’s best food trucks will all be in the same place at once, and it’s up to the people of Winnipeg to decide which one is the best.

For the first time, food trucks will be offering samples of their menu at this year’s Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Manyfest, which runs from Sept. 6-8. The Food Truck Wars will give people the opportunity to explore Winnipeg’s expanding mobile food scene and cast votes for their favourite eats throughout the weekend.

Now in its third year, Manyfest is an outdoor celebration of community, arts, entertainment and healthy living on the streets of downtown Winnipeg. The event, put on by the Downtown BIZ, is rebranding Broadway as Manyfest Way for the three-day celebration. Participants who take in Winnipeg’s largest downtown street party will see the rebranded street signs during the festival.

“Our rebranding of Broadway for the festival will help celebrate the talent, diversity, and spirit of Winnipeggers,” says Stefano Grande, Executive Director of the Downtown BIZ. “There’s no better way to tell the great story of Winnipeg than through our great festivals, great musicians and artists, and great community.”

The festival, which stretches from Broadway at Osborne to Broadway at Main, will feature a movie in the park, wine and beer festival, dance party, kid’s zone, and more among a backdrop of local musicians, artists and buskers.

“Manyfest is an excellent way for people to come together and take part in a wide range of events celebrating our downtown and the people of our province,” said Manitoba Culture, Heritage and Tourism Minister Flor Marcelino. “I want to congratulate the organizers and volunteers for their hard work making this year’s festival even more exciting.”

Stretches along the north side of Broadway will be closed to vehicle traffic over the weekend, leading up to Ciclovia, where people flood the street from Main to Osborne on foot, bicycle, roller blades and more.

On Sept. 7, festival-goers will have the opportunity to take part in this year’s Lights on Broadway, where they can dress themselves or their bikes up in lights and walk or cycle down Broadway, taking in performances on the medians along the way. Prizes for the best-lit bike or person will be awarded too.

In a festival encouraging people to reduce their carbon footprint, a bike valet will be available for anyone who needs to store their wheels. Attendees are also invited to bring their own water bottle for free water fill-ups all along the street.
