As a basketball player, Kris Humphries knows the best defence is a good offence. Following reports that he was holding out for more Kardashian cash, the NBA star is reportedly demanding a public apology from his former wife, along with a confession that “the entire wedding was staged by her and her family.”

“Kim’s camp is depicting him as money-hungry, but in fact he turned down a $7-million settlement. Her camp is putting out stories about ‘Kim’s divorce hell’ hoping he’ll cave in, but he won’t,” a friend of the Humph told the New York Post. “Kris wants Kim to admit to fraud, to admit the whole thing was staged for publicity, to make a public apology to him because he really wanted a marriage.”

Humphries reportedly filed for an annulment of the couple’s three-month marriage based on fraud and is demanding the reality star reveal how much she earned during their 72-day-marriage, as he has already done. Last week, his lawyers filed a “Notice of Fiduciary Duty and Remedies for the Breach of the Fiduciary Duty,” asking for access to any accounting books and records of any transactions Kardashian made during their marriage, reports E! News.

The Post also cites a source close to Kardashian who claims that the reality starlet is not the one behind the press attacks as “she just wants to move on” (presumably with all that sweet nuptial dough).

The paper reports that reps for both parties declined to comment.

Waters remain murky in uncharted Hellebuyck trade request territory

ST. LOUIS — The thing about being in uncharted waters is that the answer to the next question isn’t always readily apparent either above or below the surface.

Winnipeg Jets head coach Scott Arniel has been doing his best to ensure the upcoming two-game road trip against Central Division opponents doesn’t include a three-ring circus. But with news coming over the weekend that the suspension for goalie Connor Hellebuyck is set to expire on Friday, the club has to prepare for the next step in that process.

The problem, as Arniel conceded during his session on Monday afternoon before the team departed for Missouri, is that some of the hypotheticals need to be eliminated from the equation before the proper response can be determined.

“When it comes to Helly’s scenario, honestly I don’t really have a lot of information,” said Arniel. “I know everybody knows (about) Friday. That’s all we know.”

New blood in St. Vital

Joyanne Pursaga 5 minute read Updated: Yesterday at 5:02 PM CDT

Candidates to fill the wide-open St. Vital city council seat are sharing their plans to ease traffic, tighten up development rules, protect trees and improve Winnipeg Transit.

Coun. Brian Mayes led the ward since 2011 but is not running for re-election, guaranteeing a new city councillor will be chosen.

Chris Sigurdson, a Louis Riel School Division trustee and criminal defence lawyer, is competing for the job with Mayes’ endorsement.

Sigurdson said his trustee work over the last 16 years provided a valuable education in local government that he could apply at city hall.

Flood mitigation project in neighbouring Interlake First Nations underway

The federal and provincial governments are moving ahead with a $61.1-million flood mitigation project aimed at protecting hundreds of homes and critical infrastructure in Peguis First Nation and neighbouring Fisher River Cree Nation.

The first phase of the long-term initiative will see clay dikes constructed to protect central Peguis and up to 500 vulnerable homes across both communities, along with road improvements to maintain access during flooding.

Federal Indigenous Services Minister Mandy Gull-Masty and Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor announced Wednesday that work is underway, with Ottawa reimbursing eligible provincial costs through its Emergency Management Assistance Program.

The province previously approved $15.9 million last spring for emergency flood protection and road repairs in both communities, which have faced repeated flooding and evacuations.
