U of M study shows female entrepreneurs have it tough on dating market

In the aftermath of another Labour Day Classic that went down to the wire, Oliveira went through the joy of tying the game with no time left on the clock to the empty feeling that came moments later when the Saskatchewan Roughriders finished off a 32-26 victory on Sunday night before a raucous crowd of 34,352 at Mosaic Stadium.

“It’s terrible,” said Oliveira. “You just kind of feel all of the emotions. I’m pretty pissed right now. We were close, we were right there. We didn’t play our best football and we still gave ourselves a chance, which could be a silver lining.

“I don’t like to look at silver linings because the fact of the matter is we play this game to get positive results. We want to win the game and we didn’t win the game. So, I’m pissed.”

No reason to panic about city’s projected $29-M shortfall: councillor

The City of Winnipeg expects to end this year with a nearly $29-million shortfall in its tax-supported operating budget, as costs for fuel, snow-clearing and other expenses pile up.

The financial outlook is based on data up to June 30 and projects a deficit that is $8.5 million larger than the city’s first-quarter forecast.

“It’s obviously going in the wrong direction but … I wouldn’t necessarily consider it (reason for) panic at this point. It’s not surprising with fuel prices, in particular, being higher than forecast,” said Coun. Jeff Browaty (North Kildonan), city council’s finance chairman.

Traditionally, the city’s finances often improve in later months of the year, though there is no guarantee that will happen.

Hydro crews working to restore power to about 1,500 people after Sunday storm

About 1,500 people were still without electricity Tuesday afternoon as Manitoba Hydro crews continued working to clear downed trees and repair power lines following a fast-moving, violent and destructive storm that tore through a chunk of south River Heights Sunday evening.

Many of those residents are not expected to have power restored until sometime Wednesday, Hydro said.

City firefighters will be going door-to-door to check on people dealing with extended power outages.

“Starting this morning, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service firefighters will be going door-to-door in affected areas to check on residents who have been without power since the storm and whose outage may reach 72 hours in length,” a news release sent out by the city Tuesday morning said.

I recently read Manitoba Hydro’s integrated resource plan (IRP) and the independent review by Daymark Energy. I’m no expert, but it seems clear that Hydro’s plan to add three new gas combustion turbines to the Brandon power station is going to cost Manitobans a lot more than we bargained for.
