Sonny Rollins, one of the greatest saxophonists of his time, will launch this summer’s TD Winnipeg International Jazz festival with a preview concert on June 23.
The 79-year-old jazz legend will perform at Pantages Playhouse Theatre and tickets go on sale Feb. 25 for $75 plus fees at Jazz Winnipeg, 007-100 Arthur St., or from Ticketmaster. (Jazz Winnipeg will pay the Ticketmaster convenience fee for the first 200 tickets bought in person at the fest office.)
Rollins began recordings in the 1950s and his latest, released last year, was a disc of live concert recordings. The saxophonist last performed at the jazz fest on June 26, 1993.
This year’s fest runs from June 25 to July 4.
