All aboard the ’90s nostalgia train — next stop, I Mother Earth.

The Canadian alt-rock band is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its most successful album, Scenery & Fish, with a tour that will reunite vocalist Edwin, who has not performed with the group since 1997, with the other two original members, Jagori Tanna on guitar and Christian Tanna on drums. They will stop in Winnipeg at the Burton Cummings Theatre, Oct. 6.

I Mother Earth, or IME as the cool kids used to say, hit peak popularity in the mid-’90s, thanks to the massive success of Scenery & Fish — it went triple-platinum and spawned four top-five singles. Shortly after the tour for that album was completed, Edwin left the band citing “unmanageable tension.” IME continued with a revamped lineup, but ended up taking a hiatus for eight years until 2012, when they reunited to play shows sporadically for the next few years. The band announced Edwin’s return earlier this year.

Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster and livenation.com and range in price from $25-$49 plus fees.

Crime-weary North End daycare declines cabinet minister’s offer to help with relocation

Manitoba’s minister for early childhood learning offered to help a North End daycare move to a new location after it suffered a break-in, thefts and repeated vandalism in recent months, but the centre says it is staying put.

Gerrie Prymak, a board member for non-profit Woman Healing For Change Inc, which operates the Little Stars Playhouse daycare, said Minister Tracy Schmidt made the offer by phone Wednesday morning after media reports highlighted the incidents.

She said she was baffled by the minister’s offer because the centre’s location on Selkirk Avenue was selected after extensive research was done to find the best spot for the community’s needs.

“We built this place. Why do we have to move? Why can’t you get rid of those derelict buildings behind us?” Prymak said.

Gang member who shot rival, bystander back in prison after release revoked

Erik Pindera 4 minute read Monday, Oct. 12, 2026

A Winnipeg man who shot a rival teenage gangster and an innocent 11-year-old bystander at the crowded Red River Exhibition more than four years ago has been sent back to prison.

Mocree Chuck Scatch-Dubour, now in his early 20s, left prison in April on statutory release on his 5 1/2-year federal sentence for the 2022 shooting. Scatch-Dubour was sentenced to the prison term as an adult in the spring of 2023 after pleading guilty to discharge of a firearm with intent to wound, aggravated assault and possession of a restricted firearm.

By law, most federal inmates automatically receive statutory release after two-thirds of their sentence, if they have not already been paroled.

Parole Board of Canada officials formally revoked Scatch-Dubour’s release this month after he unlawfully left his halfway house in June.
