Faouzia’s new single is Legend-ary

Faouzia’s newest single is a collaboration with pop-music superstar John Legend.

The singer-songwriter from Carman announced last Sunday evening on her social media accounts that the song, Minefields, would be released Thursday.

“It’s been so hard to keep this a secret from you all!!!!” Faouzia posted on Twitter.

Legend has become an entertainment powerhouse since breaking out in 2004 with his debut album, Get Lifted. Since then he has won 11 Grammy Awards and is one of 16 people — and the first Black man — to win all four of the major awards: an Emmy, a Grammy, and Oscar and a Tony.

He has collaborated with a who’s who of music in the past 15 years, including Kanye West, Alicia Keys, Kelly Clarkson, Common; he appears on Carrie Underwood’s upcoming Christmas album My Gift.

He also became a coach on the NBC talent show The Voice in 2019.

Faouzia has had a breakout year in 2020 despite the obstacles the COVID-19 pandemic has put in the way of all musicians. She has released or been featured on several singles this year, including the Kelly Clarkson single I Dare You, in which she sings her part of the duet in Arabic.

Faouzia, 20, was born in Morocco but moved to Manitoba as an infant with her family. They eventually settled in Carman.

In May, she also teamed up with Swedish electronic music duo Galantis for the single I Fly, which appeared on Scoob! The Album, the soundtrack to the film that was the latest release in the Scooby Doo movie franchise.

And in August, she released Stripped, a six-song EP that coincided with a livestreamed performance from a vacant Burton Cummings Theatre. The show also included candid moments from her home.

She also announced Sunday that her songs have surpassed 150 million listens on the Spotify music streaming service.
