Three days ago, superstar musician Bruno Mars posted a video featuring two girls busting some moves to Uptown Funk on his Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts with the caption, “Mom and Daughter swag!”

While the “swag” part is definitely correct, the dancing duo are actually sisters Callahan Wiedenhoft, 16, and Cassandra Armstrong, six. They, along with their mother, Nikki Armstrong, and their 13-year-old brother, Christian Wiedenhoft, drove the four hours to Winnipeg from Fort Frances, Ont., to see Mars perform at Bell MTS Place on Aug. 2.

The video has already racked up nearly two million views across the three platforms.

Armstrong says she noticed the kids being filmed during the concert with a “big, fancy camera” by a man who was obviously part of Mars’s crew but had no idea what the footage would be used for or if they’d ever see it.

Then a few days ago, Armstrong was scrolling through one of Mars’s fan pages on social media and discovered the video of her two girls.

“My son and little one were home so we were in shock and screaming and dancing around, and Callahan, I knew she was going to freak out the most. She was out at an island at the time and her friends said she literally did laps around the island,” Armstrong laughs. “She was… oh my God, she was crying and, like, this went on for hours. It was so cute.”

In addition to the sheer volume of views, the response Armstrong and her family have received from the video has been overwhelming. Strangers from all over the world have been reaching out to her on social media, complimenting her on her beautiful family and generally sending positive vibes their way.

“It’s unbelievable to us how one post can literally change her life. It’s the best gift. We’re never going to forget it. The people who have messaged us through Instagram and through Facebook… I can’t even list all the countries — it’s like we’re bonded with all of these people now, like he’s the glue that bonded us. It is so neat,” she says.

But how does the 16-year-old feel about Mars referring to her as a mom?

“Her words exactly were: ‘I don’t care what Bruno calls me, it’s Bruno Mars, he can call me whatever he wants to,’” Armstrong says, laughing.

“It’s funny because in our family, I’m a single mom of these kids and she is such an old soul, she is little mama, and that’s what we’ve always called her.”

Men accused in commercial break-in spree were wearing ankle bracelets

Erik Pindera 5 minute read Monday, Aug. 17, 2026

Two men in electric ankle bracelets who were being monitored by justice officials have been accused in a two-month spree of commercial break-ins, vehicle thefts and other property crimes.

City police have charged one of the suspects and are searching for the second.

About $140,000 worth of property, including trailers, lawn equipment, motorcycles and bicycles, was reported stolen in 13 incidents in Winnipeg and the Rural Municipality of Headingley between April 20 and June 28, the Winnipeg Police Service said.

Both suspects were wearing electronic monitoring bracelets during that time.

Premier presses Bell Canada about ‘unacceptable’ 911 outages

Carol Sanders 5 minute read 7:19 PM CDT

Premier Wab Kinew said the province is doing all it can to ensure that Manitobans aren’t hit with another 911 service outage — including asking the head of Bell Canada to help.

“At the end of the day, when you dial 911, we need to get emergency services to you as quickly as possible,” Kinew said.

On July 22, an hours-long outage prevented nearly 90 calls to 911 from being routed to the public safety answering point in Brandon. Backup systems that reroute 911 calls when an outage occurs also experienced “issues” after a third party cut the cable during construction near Winnipeg, Bell Canada said earlier.

At the time, Kinew called the 911 outage “unacceptable,” and told reporters that Prime Minister Mark Carney assured him he would raise the matter with telecom executives.

Edmonton not the same old Elks as Bombers get ready for road clash

Taylor Allen 7 minute read 7:04 PM CDT

Edmonton’s CFL team has been a complete, utter mess for the majority of the past decade.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers took full advantage of their once-prominent West Division foe falling on hard times by shellacking them time and time again.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane, shall we?

The Blue and Gold defeated the Elks three times in a span of five weeks in 2021 — including a 30-3 beatdown on Chancellor Matheson Road on Oct. 8.

City rescinds Balmoral Street property owner’s order to clean up encampment

A West Broadway landlord is off the hook for clearing a large riverbank encampment after the City of Winnipeg rescinded an order threatening to stick him with the cleanup bill.

Marvin Sharp, CEO of Astroid Management Ltd., which operates the Pen-Eve Apartments at 35 Balmoral St., said he received a call from the city Tuesday letting him know the order has been cancelled.

In a statement from the city, an official said the order was shelved due to an existing and active easement on the property.

“We have been communicating with the property owner throughout this process and they have been informed of this development,” a spokesperson said.

Ignore gossip, be good till girlfriend’s back

Maureen Scurfield 5 minute read Yesterday at 2:00 AM CDT

DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: I am lonely to the bone. My girlfriend has been away working for the summer, and I promised I wouldn’t cheat on her. But now I have heard through the grapevine she’s seeing a guy who works at her kids’ camp.

I think the source can be trusted, because she’s a friend who cares about me, almost like a sister. Actually I think she kind of wants me herself, but never seems to cross that line. Should I believe her “inside information” when she might be wanting to go out with me herself?

My girlfriend won’t be back until the very end of August and the messages and phone calls back and forth have been less and less frequent. Maybe she’s just busy or getting rested up to see me — or maybe she’s seeing someone else. I’m feeling jealous and I hate it! Maybe I should see somebody else too. Please advise ASAP.
