REALITY TV is the gift that keeps on giving as it continues to reach new lows.

Just when you thought theyd run out of awful ideas, along comes… wait for it… Celebrity Wife Swap! Note that the word “Celebrity” is used loosely, just like “Stars” in Dancing with the Stars. Both shows air on ABC, home to another punishing reality series, The Bachelor (more on that in a minute).

I will admit, Wife Swap is an interesting sociological experiment: Two wives switch places by moving into the others home and living the others life. In the original non-celebrity version of Wife Swap, the two participating families were always polar opposites: one deeply religious, the other deeply atheist; or one family with money to burn while the other has to scrimp and save. Sometimes, there would be a heartwarming lesson about acceptance and the importance of family. At other times, it played out like a circus gone rogue.

But now that “celebrities” have been added to the mix, the crazy bar has been significantly raised. Think Im exaggerating? Check out the cast list: Gary Busey, Flavor Flav, Dee Snider and Niecy Nash — all of who have been known to venture into Crazy Town now and again. Other cast members include: Evangelical pastor Ted Haggard, professional wrestler Mick Foley, actor-model Antonio Sabato Jr., and Tina Yothers — yes, that Tina Yothers, the one who played Alex P. Keatons little sister on Family Ties. (Now you see why I put “Celebrity” in quotation marks.)

And speaking of the 80s, tonights opening episode features another child-star actress from a hit 80s sitcom, Tracey Gold of Growing Pains fame. Tonight, she swaps lives with Carnie Wilson, formerly of 90s pop group Wilson Phillips. Im thinking a more appropriate title might be Former Celebrity Wife Swap. Regardless, the results should be entertaining, as the self-described “control freak” Gold switches lifestyles with the “free-spirited” Wilson.

But before the swapping begins, its the return of The Bachelor. As hard as it may be to believe, The Bachelor kicks off Season 16 tonight — with two hours, to boot. The horror! Same show, different cast.

This time, looking for love in all the wrong places is Ben Flajnik. This is the second chance at “love” for Bachelor Ben, who was one of many men vying for the affections of The Bachelorettes Ashley Hebert. The 28-year-old winemaker will have his revenge, I mean, chance, to break some hearts and, fingers crossed, eventually find a new Mrs. Bachelor.

Dont pretend you dont want to watch.

Your idealism is aroused, perhaps because you feel sympathy for the suffering of someone far away. Because you are proactive by nature, you might do something to help in any way you can. Pay attention to what you say and do. Expect detours.

Sex sounds in stereo a sad score for singleton

Maureen Scurfield 5 minute read 2:00 AM CDT

DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: I just moved into a big old house with two buddies who curl and play hockey with me. They have girlfriends, but I don’t.

I thought they’d be staying at their girlfriends’ places on nights they were “sleeping” together, but oh no!

So now I get to listen to the duelling sex noises of two couples, on weekends and some weeknights as well.

Do I have any rights here? I really don’t want to admit defeat and move back in with my parents, when feels like I just moved out. But it’s really uncomfortable to be the only guy with no sex life in this household, and then having to hear it, while it’s happening.

A distant island and a European border

It’s at roughly 80°49′35″ North latitude and 66°27′30″West longitude.

Or, you might also know it as being in the Kennedy Channel of the Nares Strait in the high Arctic.

It’s Hans Island, an island that’s split between the Kingdom of Denmark and Canada.

The border was a bone of contention between the two nations for years, but not one that sired threats of annexation. Each simply claimed it as their own.

A community brought the Trident Press home

Stephen Borys 6 minute read 2:00 AM CDT

A truck pulled up outside Oseredok a few weeks ago carrying more than an exhibition.

Inside were the panels of Ukrainian Voice: A Legacy Mosaic, a monumental artwork built from the printing blocks once used to reproduce the photographs and illustrations in one of Canada’s longest-running Ukrainian newspapers.

A dozen people gathered to unload it. Some were longtime members of Winnipeg’s Ukrainian community; others were newcomers who had arrived since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Together, they lifted, unpacked and carried the panels through Oseredok’s doors.

It was an ordinary act of volunteer labour, but also a fitting final stage in an extraordinary journey. More than a century ago, Ukrainian newcomers created the newspaper whose printing blocks form the mosaic. Now another generation of newcomers was helping bring that history home.

Jets suspend goaltender Hellebuyck for failure to report to training camp

The Canadian Press 2 minute read Updated: Yesterday at 10:02 PM CDT

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Jets suspended goaltender Connor Hellebuyck on Wednesday night for failing to report to training camp.

The team said general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff would address the media Thursday morning. It did not specify the length of the suspension for the U.S. Olympic star.

Hellebuyck, a three-time Vezina Trophy winner and 2025 Hart Trophy winner as NHL MVP, publicly requested a trade from the team on Aug. 27.

In a statement posted on X by his agent, Ray Petkau, Hellebuyck said he had privately requested a trade “several months ago” and that he gave the organization time to address it “quietly and respectfully.”
