The Christmas season wouldn’t be the same without this classic about Rudolph, an outcast reindeer shunned by the others due to his glowing red nose. Of course, Rudolph learns to embrace his uniqueness and saves Christmas. CBS, 7 p.m.

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

Models hit the runway in iconic angel wings and outfits embellished with Swarovski Elements. The special includes model profiles and interviews, as well as performances by Rihanna, Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber. CBS/Global, 7 p.m.

Winnipeg Comedy Festival

CBC premieres the first of its series of shows taped last spring at the local laughfest — Women Who Kill, a celebration of female funny folks hosted by Caroline Rhea and featuring Elvira Kurt, Rebecca Kohler and “the world’s sexiest standup comic,” Nicole Arbour. CBC, 9 p.m.

Charleswood resident Ian Glover’s house had minor damage compared with a neighbour’s home, where a large, uprooted poplar tree crashed through the roof while the storm pummelled Winnipeg late Wednesday night and early Thursday.

“I opened the window after I woke up (around 6 a.m.) and the tree — oh my God,” Glover said. “I got my wife up and she couldn’t believe it. I was totally blown away. (Our neighbour) said the branch went right through the house into their living room.”

Glover was thankful his neighbours were not injured. Some of the tree’s outer branches clipped the corner of his home.

Downtown Winnipeg is without a Keg restaurant — for a couple of months, anyways.

The Keg Steakhouse and Bar vacated 115 Garry St. on Wednesday, after more than five decades at the location. It will open in a new Donald Street apartment tower this fall.

Its move comes after years of waiting. The DSM, at 185 Donald St., sat as a partially started apartment block after its developer stopped operating and sought creditor protection in April 2023. The developer began the project in 2019.

Carrington Real Estate took over in 2024. Part of the 14-storey site’s initial plans — pre-Carrington — was for the Keg to occupy the main floor.

Volunteers from Folklorama’s Ghana pavilion scrambled to replace cultural costumes for about 40 young dancers after the outfits were stolen in Winnipeg days before the annual festival begins.

Two plastic storage bins containing the costumes, to be worn by children and teenagers, were taken from the trunk of a parked car on Banning Street, near Notre Dame Avenue in the West End, likely late Wednesday or early Thursday.

“I felt sad that this has happened. I felt completely devastated for the mother who had them in her car,” said pavilion co-ordinator Abigail Larson. “The initial feeling of sadness changed to, ‘OK, how do we make this a positive?’”

The costumes belong to the Ghana Union of Manitoba Dancers, whose members have rehearsed for months for Folklorama, which begins Sunday.
