During celebrations of Adesa Winnipeg's 24th anniversary, Maidment noted that over the past year, Adesa Winnipeg moved about 965,000 vehicles.

Gregg Maidment, the president of Adesa Winnipeg, is proud to announce that his operation has recently been named by both Chrysler Canada and Honda Canada as the country’s top auto auction house. During celebrations of Adesa Winnipeg’s 24th anniversary, Maidment noted that over the past year, Adesa Winnipeg moved about 965,000 vehicles.

“Our goal for this coming year is to move one million vehicles,” he says.

“Between buyers who are physically present at our sales and online buyers, we have more than 1,000 bidders. And with our Liveblock interactive system, buyers can enter bids from anywhere in the world. We experienced double-digit growth last year. We have had customers this past year from China and Russia. Our inventory is available for bidding 23 hours day.

Adesa Winnipeg introduced its Liveblock platform six years ago. The technology was developed by a company in Regina. “We eventually bought the Regina company,” Maidment says. “Liveblock is now used by auto auction houses around the world.”

With its growing sales, Adesa Winnipeg has had to expand its transport operations. As a result of the added capacity, Maidment notes, new car manufacturers have begun approaching the company over the past few months about delivering new models to dealership showrooms in this region.

“We are delivering new vehicles now from the rail head to dealers from the Lakehead to the Alberta border,” Maidment says. “There are thousands of vehicles that need to be moved. Just two manufacturers alone account for shipping 57,000 vehicles a year into this region. “We are looking to hire 50 more people for our transport division.”

While Adesa Winnipeg’s sales are growing internationally, the company still concentrates on looking after its home base. Maidment reports that Adesa is offering a new service auctioning vehicles for private individuals.

“We have an ever-growing demand for inventory,” he says. “We will come and pick up your car at your house and deliver the cheque when we sell it. We will have an offer for you within seven days. We are a stock market for vehicles.”

And it is not only cars, trucks and minivans that Adesa sells. The company also has special auctions for recreation vehicles, light construction equipment and government-owned inventory such as school buses, graders and pick-up trucks.

Being a community-minded organization, Adesa Winnipeg plays a leading or supportive role in numerous charitable endeavours. “We have 24 auctioneers on staff who are available to serve at charitable events,” Maidment says. “For example, we just did an auction for the Rainbow Society that brought in a record $140,000. Adesa Canada also teams up with charitable organizations, such as the Kidney Foundation and Juvenile Diabetes, which accept used vehicles in return for tax receipts. We auction off the vehicles. We are always eager to work with charitable partners across Canada.”

Adesa Winnipeg’s major annual charitable event is its Golden Gavel Golf Tournament and Charity Auction which will be taking place this year on Sept. 14 at Glendale Golf and Country Club. “Last year, our Golden Gavel event raised $195,000 for Children’s Variety,” Maidment says.
