Parts of River Heights hammered by storm

A powerful storm cut a swath of destruction through River Heights on Sunday, leaving much of the area without power.

Nobody was hurt in the storm.

By the time it subsided, parts of the quiet neighbourhood, especially Borebank and Lindsay streets between Grant and Taylor, had been ravaged: power lines downed, Manitoba Hydro poles toppled, trees splintered and crashed down on vehicles and homes.

In one case, a vehicle was flipped into a yard and sat under a partially downed tree. Shingles were stripped from roofs. Some residents described looking out during the storm and seeing power lines ablaze and the blue glow of electricity arcing over their backyards.

Vita Health launched a grand opening celebration on Tuesday for its new store in southeast Winnipeg. Nyland was one of the customers who stopped in.

Located in St. Vital Square at 2-785 Dakota St., the new store replaces a smaller space Vita Health occupied in the same shopping centre for 19 years. At 4,700 square feet, the new store is approximately 60 per cent larger than its predecessor.

Héroux-Devtek reports $4.6M Q2 profit

MONTREAL - Aircraft parts maker Héroux-Devtek Inc. says it earned $4.6 million in its latest quarter, down from $4.8 million in the same quarter last year, as its revenue rose nearly seven per cent.

The Quebec-based company says the profit amounted to 14 cents per share for the quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with 14 cents per share a year earlier.

Sales for what was the Héroux-Devtek's second quarter totalled $141.5 million, up from $132.7 million in the same quarter last year.

The company says civilian sales rose 29.8 per cent to $53.6 million in the quarter, boosted by increased deliveries for the Boeing 777 and Embraer Praetor programs, while defence sales fell 3.8 per cent to $87.9 million due to delayed deliveries for the Boeing F-18 program.
