RRC Polytech among schools selected to train RCAF aircraft technicians

Red River College Polytechnic will become one of the first civilian schools to train Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft technicians.

The first cohort is expected to begin aircraft maintenance engineer training in fall 2027. Students will attend the post-secondary’s Stevenson campus in Winnipeg.

“There’s a lot of opportunity for us to grow,” Fred Meier, RRC Polytech’s president, said as he and University of Manitoba president Michael Benarroch addressed business executives at a Manitoba Chambers of Commerce event Tuesday morning in Winnipeg.

They highlighted the local post-secondaries’ increasing work with the Canadian Armed Forces and broader defence sector.

Lake Life Powersports buzzes into expeditious expansion

There’s no crest in sight on the wave of success Craig Becker and Glen Hart are riding.

The lifelong friends are the owners of Lake Life Powersports in Lac du Bonnet. When the all-in-one powersports and marine dealership opened in February 2024, demand for its services immediately began outpacing what the duo had forecast, Becker said. Things haven’t slowed down since.

As a result, Becker and Hart expedited the construction of a new building that houses Lake Life’s main showroom and offices.

Staff moved into the building earlier this month and will celebrate its grand opening Friday.

A rowdy stadium of about 35,000 people at Princess Auto Stadium couldn’t agree more as the Australian rock legends made their first trip to the city since 2015 on their PWR/UP tour, cranking out two hours and 20 minutes of raw and raunchy high-voltage material, a mix of blues, crunchy power chords, melodic riffs and double entendres that spanned five decades.

Their wide-ranging appeal was apparent in the demographic makeup of the crowd, which ranged from young children to seniors, many clad in $30 glowing devil horns from the well-stocked merch booth that also offered posters, banners, beer koozies, lanyards, tour books and T-shirts.
