WINNIPEG – The awards just keep piling up for Winnipeg Blue Bomber cornerback-kick returner Jovon Johnson.
Johnson, selected earlier Wednesday to the Canadian Football League’s East-Division All-Star Team, has been named the league’s special teams player of the month for October.
Johnson was absolutely spectacular down the stretch for the Bombers and three times was named the CFL Special Teams Player of the Week.
In October alone he returned 24 kickoffs for 566 yards, 34 punts for 331 yards and a touchdown while adding a 118-yard TD on a missed field goal against Edmonton. During that same span, he added 25 tackles, five pass knockdowns and two interceptions from his cornerback position.
Former Bomber Kevin Glenn was named the offensive player of the month, his Hamilton Tiger-Cat teammate Justin Hickman was the top defensive player while Saskatchewan receiver Andy Fantuz was honoured as the Canadian player of the month.
