EDMONTON – Jennifer Jones’ Olympic dream is now hanging by the thinnest of threads.

Jones and her St. Vital foursome of Cathy Overton-Clapham, Jill Officer and Dawn Askin lost 6-4 to Stefanie Lawon of Saskatoon in the morning draw at the Canadian Curling Olympic Trials, dropping her overall record to 2-3 with just two games remaining.

Jones will have to win both games and then keep her fingers crossed a 4-3 record could get her into a tiebreaker for the final playoff spot.

Jones plays unbeaten Cheryl Bernard, now 5-0, and Shannon Kleibrink, 3-2 – two of the top teams at ‘The Roar of the Rings’ – in her next two draws, beginning with Bernard Wednesday night.

“Stranger things have happened,” said Jones. “Hopefully we’ll come out and win our game tonight and see what happens from there. Obviously we’re disappointed and we’ll have to be sharper tonight. They played very well and we didn’t play as well as we wanted to… that’s the way the game goes, I guess.

“We’re a little disappointed with how we’ve been playing, but it’s not over yet. We have two tough games left and if win them both you never know what might happen.”

Both Jeff Stoughton and Jason Gunnlaugson are on the ice later today. Stoughton, at 2-2, remains in the playoff hunt while Gunnlaugson, 0-4, will be playing the role of spoiler.
