The Winnipeg Goldeyes got strong pitching and a timely hit from shortstop Wes Long to defeat the Kansas City T-Bones 2-1 before a crowd of 6,134 at Canwest Park Thursday afternoon.

Goldeyes starter Mark Holliman went six complete innings and gave up just two hits — one of them a fourth inning solo home run by former major leaguer Ray Sadler. Fish reliever Ian Thomas got credit for his league-leading fourth win of the season — and second in two games — thanks to a one-out single to left field by Long in the seventh inning that drove in Fish inifielders Josh Asanovich and Vince Harrison and gave the Goldeyes all the offense they needed.

The start of the game — a special scheduled 11 a.m. start that attracted over 4,600 school children — was delayed until just after noon by threatening weather.

The win sends the Goldeyes back out on the road having gone 4-3 on their just completed seven-game homestand and carrying a 12-9 season record. The Fish were scheduled to drive to the Chicago area immediately following the game this afternoon, where they will begin a nine-game road trip Friday night in Schaumburg.
